An end-term project (for college) where we had to design a game on typefaces.
This game is inspired by a card game which was popularly played by the children of my family for a very long time. The name of the game was called "Sola Parchi Thap" which literally translates to "Sixteen Chit Slam". The very essence of this childhood game has given foundation to this new game called Score Four.
Only four individuals can play this game in one go.
Each individual will be dealt four cards from a shuffled pack of sixteen cards. All the sixteen cards add up to four packs of four typefaces. The aim of the game is to make a pack of the same typeface first and 'slam' the cards in the center and say
'Score Four'.
'Score Four'.
The game was designed keeping in mind that the age group (8-16) which will play this game may or may not have previous knowledge about the typefaces, hence the game comes with a Glyph Card that has all the glyphs of the typesfaces and helps the players to recognise the typeface in their hand easily. This also enhances the observation skills of the players as they try to differentiate between four different glyphs in one go on the basis of their style, characters, aperture and counters, contrast, serifs, bracketing, ascenders and descenders, and finally legs and tails- broadening the scope of recognising fonts and typefaces.
THE CIRCULATION OF THE CARDS
The cards which the players wishes to discard is done through giving it to the player sitting adjecent to her/him. The second player has to follow the direction and do the same when his turn to discard a card comes and pattern follows for the rest two as well.
